Steps In A Pet Emergency

Please call our Hospital at (289) 965-5555 ahead of your arrival so we can be prepared when you arrive!

We understand how stressful a pet emergency can be for pet parents. It is important to remain calm in these situations so you can help your pet. Please remember to be cautious when handling an injured animal as pain and/or fear may cause them to bite.

If you are experiencing a pet emergency;

  1. Remain Calm! Animals will feel your emotions and stress. Speak softly and move with caution in trauma situations.

  2. If you suspect a poison or toxin has been ingested, contact ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center Phone Number: (888) 426-4435. They can give you guidance on next steps and this consult will open a case file that we can access to provide treatment guidelines on how to best treat your pet should you be advised to bring your pet to a Hospital. There is a fee for this consult and you will need to provide a credit card number to the APCC. Please inform us of the Pet Poison case number when you arrive at our Hospital.

  3. If your pet is choking, check inside their mouth to see if there is something lodged inside and clear their airway.

  4. If the animal is bleeding, apply direct pressure to the wound.

  5. Move injured pets carefully; If a back injury is suspected, attempt to slide your pet onto a flat surface. Make every attempt to safely transport them with minimum movement if possible.

  6. CAUTION! A pet in pain may bite or scratch you!

We see patients based on an urgency triage level, not arrival time. Please note your pet will be seen based on priority level after being triaged by one of our Triage Vet Technicians.
